As
a leader in sealants supply we aim to meet and exceed the
customers need, Den Braven believes in personal contact and to
develop that personal contact. Not only offering support but
technical solutions as well.
Den Braven silicone sealants are materials of choice by industry and
DIY users in the home and for hobby use. Silicone sealants also
known as RTV 1 (one - component, room temperature vulcanization) are used as
adhesives, sealants, coatings, heat insulators, and
encapsulating material. Widely used in the construction, sanitary, DIY and industrial sectors where
high quality seals, adhesion with high joint movement
tolerances are required. After application the silicone cures
with atmospheric moisture to form a durable rubber seal.
Falling in the class of being both a sealant and adhesive, it is important
that the Den Braven silicone sealants provide sound adhesion
while still remaining flexible. Surface preparation is very
important in order to obtain that good adhesion. Surfaces must
be clean, dry and sound. Den Braven sealants retain their
adhesion and flexibility even after many years, and adhere well
to many substrates. The sealant remains fully functional as it
is virtually unaffected by UV radiation, ozone, rain, snow,
sunlight and extreme temperatures. The sealants mechanical and
physical properties remain virtually unchanged to ageing or
exposure to weather.

Because the Den Braven silicones function remains constant over a wide
temperature range, (-30 °C to 300°C) depending on the grade and
type of silicone sealant, the sealant ideally compensates for
the joint movement when the seal is subjected to the elements.
At severe low temperatures (-40°C) the sealant would harden as a result of
partial crystallization and ultimately lead to embrittlement. On
the other side of the scale, if the sealant gets exposed
continuously at temperatures higher than specified (exceeding
300°C on the Den Braven Gasket red) it breaks down into a
powder, leaving behind a non-conducting silica ash. It is
advisable to carry out the sealing work only at moderate
temperatures, between 5°C and 40°C owing to the environmental
elements, condensation at low temperatures and longitudinal
expansion at high temperatures.

Silicone sealants consist mainly of silicone polymers, plasticizers and
reinforcing fillers either fumed silica, silicates or calcium
carbonate. To provide specific properties our sealants contain
adhesion promoters, pigments and in the case of the Den Braven
Sanitary sealant (for sanitary applications such as bathrooms and
kitchens) it also contains fungicides and bactericides.
Den Braven Specialty sealants are continuously being developed to
meet specific application requirements. The sealants
technology has progressed over the past few years and various
vulcanization (curing system) have evolved. There
is a trend towards the more neutral types of curing systems.
We are there to assist you in any technical or application queries that you
may have with regards to any of our products.

A family business with international punch, Den Braven supplies
its world class sealant
products to many countries around the globe. These products are the result of intensive research and ISO 9002
quality standards applied throughout the manufacturing process.
The Den Braven home is Oosterhout in Holland, where the founder of this pacesetting organisation - Kees
Den Braven - is still actively involved in the business in his role as company president. His son, Wim den
Braven, is at the helm as managing director.
Den Braven South Africa meets the increasing demands of local users through imports from Den Braven
manufacturing operations in other parts of the world. These products are warehoused in Gauteng, Durban and
Cape Town and distributed throughout the country by the road fleet.
